  • Will of Henry Dyson of Inkberrow 1548

    The 15th day of August in the year of our Lord God 1548 and in the second year of the Reign of our Sovereign Lord Edward the 6th by the Grace of God, King of England, France and Ireland, defender of the Faith and of the Church of England and also of Ireland, in the name of God, I Henry Dyson of Inkberrow in the Diocese of Worcester, firm in body and of good and perfect mind and memory do make my last testament, therein my last will in manner and form following;

    That is to say that I bequeath my soul to Almighty God, and my body to be buried in the Churchyard of Inkberrow aforesaid. (Signed)

    I bequeath unto Henry Hunt and Humphrey Hunt the sons of John Hunt, my son in law, 40 shillings, equally to be dived amongst them. (Signed)

    I give and bequeath unto John Hunt, father of the said children, my four store heifers. (Signed)  I give and bequeath unto John Dannox and Edward Dannox, the sons of Henry  Dannox my son in law, the sum of 40 shillings in money, equally to be dived among them. I give and bequeath unto Henry Dyson, son of Lewis Dyson 20 shillings in money and unto Margaret, Mary and Alice the daughters of the said Lewis Dyson 6 shillings and 8 pence each. I give and bequeath unto Edward Broke, my son in laws children 13/4d sterling equally divided among them. I give and bequeath unto Henry Dyson's children, 26/8d in money equally to be divided between them.
    I give and bequeath unto Robert Dyson's children 13/4d, equally divided between them.

    I give and bequeath unto Henry Woodward and Henry Brystowe my Godchildren 20/- each, and to every on of my other Godchildren 12d each.  I give and bequeath unto Elizabeth Wager my daughter 20/-, to Elizabeth her daughter 6/8d. I give and bequeath unto Ann Laugher £3.6s.8d. I give and bequeath unto Margaret Clark 20d. I give and bequeath unto the poor people of Morton 6/8d, to the poor people of Rous Lench 6/8d, the poor people of Inkberrow 6/8d, to the poor people of  Feckenham Wor 6/8d, to the poor people of Bradley 6/8d, to the poor people of Flyford 6/8d, to the poor people of Kington 6/8d.

    I give and bequeath and assign my tack and lease of the farm at Nobury, in the County of Worcester, all the pertinances and during the years yet remaining to me, unto Robert Dyson my son. I give and bequeath unto Henry Emme, Parson of Abbots Morton 20/-, unto Baylye Biston 20/-.

    I give and bequeath unto Elizabeth, my wife, during her life only, 8 drawing oxen, my 8 milk kyne, all my horses and mares, carts, wains and ploughs, harrows and all my corn and household stock for and during the term of her life if she kept herself sole and unmarried. I give and bequeath my tack or lease of Penells at Inkberrow, in the County of Worcester with pertinances, to the same belonging, and the years yet to come in the same, to the said Elizabeth, my wife, or and during the term of her natural life, if she so long, keeps herself sole and unmarried. And unto John Dyson, the son and heir of Henry Dyson, my son, to enjoy and occupy the same, jointly together and after her decease. I will the said tack or lease of Fenells with pertinances unto the said John Dyson, and all the rest of my goods and chattels and debts not bequeathed, my debts, funeral expenses and legacies satisfied, converted and paid, I give and bequeath unto my said wife Elizabeth, for her natural life if she so long keeps herself sole and unmarried, and unto the said John Dyson, my grandson, equally divided between them, provided that if my said wife marries or dies, then my will is that immediately after the day of her marriage or death, that the said John Dyson shall have and enjoy all the legacies, and every part and parcel thereof, to my said wife given, bequeathed or assigned, any clause or sentence in this my present testament or last will mentioned to the contrary, not withstanding that the said John Dyson paying unto her £6.13s 4d. And returning all the goods she brought unto me at the time of her marriage.

    Also that if the said John Dyson does not marry Ann Laugher, then my will is that the same John Dyson shall have and enjoy none of any legacies above to him, by me bequeathed, and I will that the same legacies and every part and parcel thereof shall be distributed to the poor people, at the aforesight and discretion of my said wife, Henry Emme and Bayle Biston.

    I make Elizabeth my wife and John Dyson executors, to execute and fulfill my present testament and last will accordingly, and I do make Henry Emme and Bayle Biston my overseers to see that the same be executed and fulfilled. Witnesses thereunto Thomas Laughe and John Steward, with others, given the day and year mentioned.
